Tree Walk at Croft Close Nature Reserve
An evening stroll around the trees of the Croft Close Nature Reserve: ancient trees and saplings, common trees and exotic species. How did the trees spring up on this formerly bare field? What other wildlife comes with them? The walk leader will be Daphne Fisher, one of the founder members of Histon & Impington Green Spaces, who is qualified in Forestry.
Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
We start at the Croft Close entrance to the Set-aside (CB24 9HU).
Please register in advance by emailing sitemanagers@abbeyfields.online . Places are limited to avoid disturbing the nesting birds.
There is no charge for the walk but participants will be invited to donate to Histon & Impington Green Spaces (in cash on the day, or via the website).

There will be a nature puzzle trail between the two sites.
Find out what nature stalls are coming here.
See the programme of TIMED ACTIVITIES here.

Regrettably, there is no car parking provision. Please come dressed for the weather.
This event is supported by the Histon Beer Festival.

Raking work parties at Long Meadow
Help clear grass cuttings after the annual Spring cut at Long Meadow
Weather permitting, Long Meadow is due to have its annual March cut on Thursday, 26th March 2026.
It’s important to clear the arisings so that the wildflowers can grow without having to battle their way through a layer of mown grass!
We need help with the raking. Last year there was not much grass growth, so the arisings were fairly quickly raked up. This year the grass is relatively long and lush so we have planned for four sessions:
Friday 27th March 2026, 10:30am-12:30pm
Friday 27th March 2026, 2:30pm-4:30pm
Saturday 28th March 2026, 10:30am-12:30pm
Saturday 28th March 2026, 2:30pm-4:30pm.
We start by the fence at the village end of Long Meadow.
If possible, please register in advance by emailing sitemanagers@abbeyfields.online. This allows us to let you know if the work party has to be moved to another date.
Please come dressed for the weather, with stout footwear and gloves. Please bring a rake (wooden or spring-tined best) if you can.
Please remember the weather may dictate changes in these arrangements!
