Exciting new opportunities

Histon & Impington Green Spaces was set up by the community in response to the immediate threat to the green spaces now known as “Abbey Fields”. When first established the charity was not a membership organisation (for details see Our Story). Key to its operations was a support group called "The Friends of Histon & Impington Green Spaces" established at the same time.

Following the fantastic achievement of raising the funds to secure the Abbey Fields sites for the community in perpetuity, the Trustees of the charity and the Steering Committee of the Friends group agreed that the time had come to change the charity to a membership organisation. Having our supporters as members made the Friends group a redundant structure. All Friends are being invited to sign up as Members of Histon & Impington Green Spaces – as explained in this letter from the chair of the charity explaining this exciting development.

Why become a Member?

Becoming a member of Histon & Impington Green Spaces is an opportunity to keep in touch with what the charity is doing, show your support and get involved in a variety of ways.

Looking beyond the Abbey Fields Project, the charity has a wider ambition to help secure a better network of wild green spaces for the people of Histon and Impington despite development pressures (see Our-Vision).

Members can get actively involved in shaping the charity’s future programmes and plans, either at General Meetings or in working groups on specific themes. At General Meetings the membership can put forward topics for discussion and will also elect the trustees who run the charity.

See our Member Information document for details.
