HIGS Photography Competition

There are three judges as follows:

Ian Ellis

Ian is a Consultant Ecologist and a Trustee of Histon and Impington Green Spaces. Ian is a keen ornithologist and entomologist and can often be found documenting birds in his parish of Cottenham. He regularly participates in the "Magical Moths and Beautiful Birds" events held on Croft Close Nature Reserve, exhibiting the moths he traps both for scientific and educational purposes.

Kevin Pigney

Kevin is a full-time professional photographer based in Burwell, Cambs. He began photography as a hobby just over 8 years ago. He loves many genres of photography although primarily outdoor and his passion is nature/wildlife and also sea/landscapes throughout the UK.

 “In all aspects I try to get the image as near to the finished one using in-camera techniques, I believe an image is a moment in time which I witnessed, captured by my camera to share with the world.

"I often attend fairs and markets retailing both mounted and fully framed prints primarily of nature, much taken locally in East Anglia. I also present both in person and via zoom to camera clubs and associations throughout the UK and beyond. I run coastal and wildlife workshops locally, also teaching photography and post-production again both in person and via zoom. Finally I run a pet studio, taking studio portraits, predominantly of dogs.”

Rachel Lennard

Rachel has always had a keen interest in wildlife and now works as project manager for a nature conservation charity, focusing on habitat restoration in the Fens. Birds are a particular passion, which she discovered during lockdown and now spends much of her free time birding around Cambridgeshire - and taking lots of photographs!
