Advance Notice of essential tree works at Long Meadow
On Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th September tree surgeons will be undertaking significant works to two horse chestnut trees in Long Meadow. They are part of the avenue beside Park Lane, and both are suffering from the ‘bleeding canker’ disease which has already led to the loss of several members of this line of large, mature trees.
Histon & Impington Green Spaces has decided that these works must be carried out as the trees pose a risk to the public. We have been advised by consultants that the poor condition of the two trees means that there is a small chance that large branches could be shed onto both the footpath/cycleway along Park Lane and the access paths near the two trees which pass through the hedgerow and lead to the meadow.
Path to be closed
Replacement path opposite 81 Park Lane
The trees will not be felled, but the works will involve cutting back some of the main limbs, so that safety risks are minimised. All arisings will be removed from the site.
The two access paths that run beneath the respective canopies of the trees in question will be closed off permanently before the works commence. A new pathway – directly opposite 81, Park Lane – has been made so that there will still be pedestrian access to the western end of Long Meadow. This new path is aligned to avoid passing under any canopies, and so shouldn't be affected by any future tree work.
